A Bit Of Shopbam History

Filed under: General — admin @ 6:10 pm

We started the website shopbam way back around 2000. At the time it was new technology but over the years the competition for an online shopping website that really did not offer anything but link to other shops was soon to become too competitive to keep abreast of. Eventually the Kelkoo’s and comparison websites took over, so the work on shopbam slowed and then eventually stopped.

In fact we can now say the site is well out of date and in dire need of refreshment. So we will be starting with this blog, until we decide exactly which format we will use going forward. We have developed other sites during theses years, even those that conflicted with some of the subjects within and examples being breakdown cover and car insurance.

Some other sites we developed started with breakdown – cover net, which was in fact a site that gave specific information, news, TV ads, comparison tables and much more on the subject of breakdown cover. Of course there are different levels of cover form roadside assistance right through to breakdown recovery options, from many of the service provider in the UK, so it was important to get as much info as possible, to make it easier to buy breakdown cover online.

We then expanded this concept into another finance site called financebam. Not only did this have breakdown cover, but home, car, van, Bike, pet and life insurance too within its pages together with a comprehensive financial news section. Alas we struggled to keep this up to date and fell foul of the FSA, so this is now a review site only, offering personal comments from car insurance reviews to supplier issues, this should relate to good and bad.

We are now about to tackle the Mortgage advice market with anew site called Mortagebam. This is a platform that brings independent mortgage brokers and those looking for home loan together in the easiest and most transparent way. It is a large site with much work, but we will see how it gets on.

We know that we need to upgrade Shopbam, but please bear with us. It is not the most important thing to do at the moment, but it will get worked on in time.

Confusing Message High Street

Filed under: High Street — admin @ 1:03 pm

As the lead up to Christmas day approached the message via the news channels was that spending was down and the shops on the high street would have their worst time in years. This was backed up by several retailers going into administration including, MFI, Woolworths, Zavvi and the officers club amongst the list.

However when the public were interviewed the replies were Credit Crunch what credit crunch, we are buying as normal. Then the figures that suggest that sales were down 2% or so also gave an unclear message as any business that cannot handle a 2% dip in sales was probably not in a god position to survive anyway.

The retailers decided to keep their doors open much later than normal for the week up to Christmas and the message now was, we a clawing back the losses of previous weeks, with one retailer stating that the 23rd December was their best day ever. Throughput all this confusing news, only one piece of information remained constant.  It seems that Online shopping sales has still increased on last year. So was the downturn in sales for certain retailers, due to the credit crunch or the fact they were in dire state anyway, waiting to fall and now they had an excuse that did not implement blame.

Boxing Day saw the news teams at the large retail centres up and down the UK; all saying this could be the biggest Boxing Day ever. For anyone following the news, it must be too confusing with such different message broadcast and a ever changing information over the Christmas period.
